Just installed one on Pilgrims farm last week. This is Rotems digital 5 stage thermostat with a ramping temp curve.

Extremely easy to set up. You set a first day, second, and last. The RDT5 will ramp your backup each day. No need to mess with backup thermostats.

Can this unit be used as stand alone without using 5 temp sensors?

Yes it functions as a standalone unit and you can use one through five temp sensors. Hope that answers your question.

The manual says if the resistor is installed the stage is inactive. I need to run stage 1,2 and 3 on 1 temp sensor, and stage 4 and 5 on a different temp sensor. Can you tell me how to wire it? Thanks

Checked with Rotem. There answer is below... Let me know if this helps.

"This cannot be done.

This controller was designed to replace 5 separate thermostats and that is why you must have a separate  sensor for each stage.
This truly makes it a 5 stage thermostat because even if the main CPU is damaged and even if a stage CPU is damaged, the other will keep on working independently.
That is also why the RDT-5 comes with 5 temp sensors.

Thanks"
